DESCRIPTION:Breeding EDGE is a three-day workshop designed to assist producers improve and refine their breeder herd management and genetic improvement plans using genetic and reproductive knowledge and technologies\, to achieve desired production targets. \nAttending this workshop will help you to:\n• identify where the current breeder herd management program can be improved to reduce reproductive loss\n• measure reproductive performance more accurately\n• identify strategies and management to improve bull selection\, retention\, management and performance\n• develop\, or refine\, a practical and achievable management plan for the breeding herd that will lead to higher productivity\n• gain a thorough understanding of genetic improvement for both breeding cattle and turnoff cattle and develop breeding objectives to take your herd in a more profitable direction. \nWhat you will learn:\n• current herd performance – what measures matter most\n• reproduction and reproduction loss\n• managing the breeders – systems\n• bull fertility and management\n• identifying “not so obvious” bull faults that impact reproduction\n• reproductive diseases and diseases impacting reproduction\n• breeder herd management plans\n• genetic improvement of your herd (including breeding objectives)\n• genetic principles and selection tools\n• selection and selection criteria for traits important to you\n• breeds and breeding systems. \nPresenters: Felicity Hamlyn-Hill (Beef Enterprise Advisory Services)\, Tim Emery (Qld Department Agriculture & Fisheries) and Dr Geoff Fordyce (ACV & BULLCHECK accredited vet). \nLocation: Townsville\, Qld \nCost: A subsidy is available for Burdekin catchment producers: $1\,350* + GST (1st person from one business ) or $1\,050* + GST (2nd & 3rd person from same business). *Subsidy available thanks to NQ Dry Tropics via support from The Herding Change Through Grassroots Recovery project which is funded by the partnership between the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. SUMMARY:World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
DESCRIPTION:Restoration. Land. Recovery.\nThe 2021 Desertification and Drought Day is held on 17 June to focus on turning degraded land into healthy land. Restoring degraded land brings economic resilience\, creates jobs\, raises incomes and increases food security. It helps biodiversity to recover. It locks away the atmospheric carbon warming the Earth\, slowing climate change. It can also lessen the impacts of climate change and underpin a green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. \nNearly three quarters of the Earth’s ice-free land has been altered by humans to meet an ever-growing demand for food\, raw materials\, highways and homes. Avoiding\, slowing and reversing the loss of productive land and natural ecosystems now is both urgent and important for a swift recovery from the pandemic and for guaranteeing the long-term survival of people and the planet. \nCurrent commitments from over 100 countries specify the restoration of almost 1 billion hectares of land over the next decade – an area almost the size of China.5 If we restore this land\, we can deliver massive benefits for people and the planet. \nTo celebrate the Day and become aware of our role\, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has announced various activities and materials on its official website. Help us to achieve the restoration of our lands!

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to Building Grazing Business Resilience at Teebar\, 17 June.\nCome and learn about new drought assistance and resources\, discuss drought management ideas and identify learning opportunities at the free Building Grazing Business Resilience workshop. \nAs part of Queensland’s drought reform\, Drought Preparedness Grants offer up to $50\,000 as a co-contribution grant to assist primary producers undertake on-farm capital improvements that will improve the drought preparedness of their property. \nTo access these grants and other drought support measures including no and low interest loans\, producers will need to have a Farm Business Resilience Plan. \nTo assist producers with this\, the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries\, Rural Solutions Queensland and Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority invite you to a workshop to learn more about the new policy\, how to apply and to discuss drought management ideas for adoption and funding.
